"A Balinese Dream" by Gaia Grant

Children and adults alike will enjoy the exotic sights and sounds of this innocent artistic impression of the island of the gods.

Follow a young Balinese girl through the rhythm of her daily life, feel the weight of responsibility as she attempts to balance the fantasies and realities of her future. From sunrise to sunset, and through the noontime and night, join her in her simple but significant discoveries.

A fascinating insight into how children in Bali see themselves and their world.

The Seniwati Gallery supports the women artists of Bali. Young girls can attend workshops regularly to learn about traditional forms of art and to practice and develop their own talents. The eight young artists who have contributed work to this book are representative of the whole group of artists, aged between 5 and 17 years, whose work is being carefully nurtured to maturity over a number of years. Their creative works of art have been widely exhibited, providing unique windows into their lives for others, and allowing the girls themselves to learn about life in the world beyond their own.

Gaia Grant has travelled to and worked with many different cultures throughout the world as she teaches personal development and communication skills. She has extensively explored the ways children are raised in different countries in her book, “The Rhythm of Life”. She is also a co-author of the International and Indian Schools Total Health Program, which aims to educate children and their communities about healthy living principles. Spending time in Indonesia with her own two young children has given her an enthusiasm for and appreciation of the unique perspective of Balinese children.
