The politics and power of leadership
This is really good. However, I would also add that leaders
- let me say great leaders believe in building, creating and contributing.
They are not just interested in fame, fortune, and power. They also know
they set the cadence for the organization. For example, role modeling the
right behaviors and thinking and acting like a champion everyday. Passion,
curiosity, and excitement are real motivators for a team. While I agree
with all your messages below, please do not lose sight on the "spiritual
impact" a great leader can have on an organization. When one earns the
confidence/trust of the team, has a solid vision of where we are going,
provides some guidance and competence on how to get there and does it in
an inspiring way, look out - you have all the ingredients for non linear
growth and the seeds of a great company.

Dear Andrew,
Thanks for the piece. It sparked a question I have
wondered about--the composition of a team. You mention the risks of group
think and conformity. But how does one mesh diversity with a desire to
work together? Your piece makes mention of the greater frictions in more
diverse teams. What yardsticks does one use to measure when the costs of
these frictions outweigh the benefits of diversity? The answer may lay in
defining diversity as a a mix of skills and experiences, but with a
willingness to participate in a group. In practice I've found, though,
that some of the most "diverse" members of the team are those least
committed to positions of other team members and most willing to
substitute their own views for those of others. I'd welcome any reactions
you might have or reading you might suggest for me.

make great reading. As
sad as this all is, it is also so true we have become so consumer
orientated and greed is often the cause.
Experience teaches us a lot of things, and personally I have gained a
lot - something I am grateful for. True
our lives will change: the way we do business, the way we travel, and
hopefully greatly changes the way we communicate. We all suffer but also
have to be strong, and whilst our management
skills
will be tested we have to ensure that our workforce understands."

"Thoughtful consideration of this stuff is all too rare nowadays.
It is disconcerting that the almost universal reaction to the attacks
is identical to the "thinking" that led to them in the first
place - and off we go on
yet another round of Bombing for Peace."
