Government bailouts, stimulus packages, and CEO capped salaries are seen as the current remedial steps needed to save the world from economic ruin. But none of these measures will really address the fundamental issues that led to the 2008 market collapse. Companies that have been affected by the collapse need to rebuild their culture in such a way that their values (the essential glue that holds the structure in place) is strong enough to ensure sustainability. Unpredictable oscillating economic cycles will continue to be a fact of business, but the smart leaders will have better prepared individuals, teams and organizational strategies to deal with the ups and downs of these cycles.

With the climate of a post 2008 crash organisations will be facing big issues of trust and hope among the survivors. Leaders need to be aware that this could well provide a decision point that could lead to either a destructive downward spiral or a chance for regenerative growth.
