Team Positioning System (TPS)
Tirian creates positive intervening experiences that build platforms for open discovery and exploration of important issues. These experiences break down the barriers and drive individuals to work toward structured outcomes and to achieve full potential within the context of the organization.
Over the last 10 years Tirian has identified several core competencies that we believe contribute to creating successful, high performance teams. Good teams don't just happen by chance, and when extra pressure is placed on them they can be in danger of falling apart (at the time they need to be able to perform the best).
The Dimension 1 simulation exercise that Tirian has created helps individuals to understand how teams can perform better. In these simulations people have the chance to experiment with attitude management, leadership, followership, communication, and general team behaviors in a safe and entertaining environment. These exercises help reveal the potential of a team, non-work specific strengths and weaknesses, motivation, and how functional or dysfunctional teams are.
Some teams are inhibited or blocked by work related issues such as the environment, politics, bureaucracy, personalities and behavior styles. The simulations give teams a chance to look at the potential of the team without these issues interfering. Many teams are able to perform well in simulated /games based conditions but are held back at work by prohibiting circumstances.
Tirian's TPS ™ is a facilitation tool that helps teams look at what the team's potential is and what could be blocking it. One of the key points during the TPS ™ is to demonstrate that most groups, given the right environment (and motivation), can perform as a team if they need to. Even a dysfunctional team, if faced with the challenge of survival, (No One is an Island, Endangered, Village Celebrations) is capable of forming a team to overcome the challenge. The TPS ™ identifies the key areas that helps teams see for themselves how they can become successful.
TPS sometimes can work in reverse
Sometimes the TPS ™ can work in reverse (On Thin ICE, Catch Me if you Dare, Sky is not the Limit). Teams that feel there are no issues to deal with (but in reality individuals have embedded themselves in a cocoon like environment) can, during a simulation, discover that below the radar, there are issues that are blocking team performance.
The TPS ™ maps a team’s performance in both the current simulation and back and work, and then compares the difference. It is a great tool for leaders to gain a picture of their team (current and potential) and a perfect way to promote open dialogue and discussion in a safe environment. This simple to use, 2 page document, when combined with a good simulation and facilitation, will help a team discover for themselves practical ways to improve team performance.
