Press Release  Media Articles on Catch Me (Aust Fin Review, Asia Times Online...

PRESS RELEASE: In the first half of 2003, the world battled a series of crises. Governments were shaken up and international political relationships strained, tourism and retail almost collapsed in several regions, medical facilities were stretched to the limits, trust in people and organisations was shattered, and many economies stood still. What happened? During that period there was an international war, an outbreak of a killer virus, threats of bioterrorism and cyber terrorism, conventional terrorist attacks, new information on the dangerous effects of lead poisoning and agent orange, class action plans against bogus drug companies, earthquakes, and a satellite crash landing on the planet… just to name a few of the disasters that struck.

Who was ready to deal with it all? No one could have predicted the breadth and impact of what happened. But for those who had not heeded the warning signs from the series of building international crises that came before, the cost was enormous...

Tirian – an international company that focuses on organisational development through experiential learning – has designed a creative new ‘reality role play’ for crisis management awareness called ‘Catch Me if you Dare’. Tirian has a great track record for developing unique team development programs for executives from a range of top international organisations including Cisco Systems, Standard Chartered, Deutsche Bank, Accenture, TNT, and Starwood Hotels. The Vice President of Cisco Marketing Asia Pacific has attested to the benefits of Tirian’s experiential learning approach: ‘Through using these programs, issues that have previously taken months to deal with have now been effectively solved in a much shorter space of time. The results have been amazing.’

A REALITY ROLE PLAY FOR THE CURRENT TIMES:

Catch me if you Dare blends actual information and events with a clever twist of fiction to address the issues related to dealing with crises, playing out like a great ‘whodunit’ mystery novel. Managing Director Andrew Grant says the reason he wanted to design a role play based mainly on fact is so that no one could say, ‘This is not possible’. The complex web of scenarios may read like a futuristic drama, but the issues are real, and they are highly relevant for today’s individuals and organizations. Through exploring major issues such as trust, competence, honesty and communication there is the opportunity to explore core values and responses.

Guy Heywood, Regional Manager of the exclusive Aman Resorts in Indonesia, was the first to take up on the opportunity to run ‘Catch Me if you Dare’ for his General Managers and executive staff. ‘Because our corner of the world has been through so much, it is vital that our team understands each others strengths and weaknesses so we can continue to proactively deal with the crises we continue to come up against.’

Tirian’s co-Director, Gaia Grant, summarises the value of 'Catch me if you Dare' for team awareness and readiness for a crisis. ‘There is already a lot of information available on crisis management, but how much of it is being successfully applied – and how much buy in is there for participation throughout the organisation? An active participation exercise like this can really drive home the need for preparedness in crisis situations.’ Because participants are asked to take on the role of characters from a range of different industries and from different regions around the world, they are challenged to consider the different perspectives that arise in crisis situations. A tremendous kinetic energy is created… energy that is ready to be converted into action as soon as the next crisis comes!  (more details www.catchmeifyoudare.com )

Coping in a Culture of Perpetual Crisis
(Feature article by Bill Pheasant)

Crisis on, chicken off the menu
Gary La Moshi from Asia Times Online interviews Andrew Grant, MD of Tirian and designer of Catch Me if you Dare, to look at how organisations can prepare themselves to avoid costly mistakes. “As usual, the costs of government failure to deal with looming crises until it is too late will be eaten by ordinary people, who will also be force-fed a diet of doubletalk. Indonesia is not alone in failing to learn the lessons of SARS, or to see the warning signs, but its reaction to the bird flu outbreak is tragic nonetheless…”.
